In the last week of September two workshops were held at Sampa Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts and women’s only Fitness.
It was hands on workshop open to the public were Mixed Martial Arts students from other schools in the area also came to participate and donate.
All the funds were donated to FGUS.NET
FGUS is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to maintain educational excellence in the Glendora Unified School District. This not only includes fundraising, but also facilitating community involvement and enhancing student learning. Glendora is a unique district in that not only has it had its budget drastically cut similar to other districts, but it doesn’t receive the same categorical funding as other districts.
The Foundation for Glendora Unified Schools is a nonprofit benefit corporation whose specific and primary purpose is to provide financial support, facilitate community involvement, and enhance student learning for the Glendora Unified School District.
First workshop was a wrestling workshop, Coach Joseph Solis were the teacher and taught basic techniques and set ups for takedowns for the attendees. Coach Joseph wrestled his 4 years in High school for North View High in Covina and One year in college.
Second workshop was held by Professor Renato Migliaccio the owner of Sampa Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the subject were basic foot locks for bjj – Brazilian Jiu Jitsu – Grappling and Self Defense.
Many students from Glendora High also attended that workshop, to support the cause and the Idea of raising funds for the schools of Glendora.
“We raised 280.00 dollars this time in only 2 hours, I am sure we could do better next time” Says Migliaccio Sampa’s head coach.
Sampa BJJ and MMA Will try to promote fundraising events at least three times a year to achieve the goal of donating at least 1,000.00 dollars per year.
