Sampa BJJ Academy Last Week Activities
As always we are full of activities at the Sampa BJJ academy.
First of all, we want to announce that we are about to get closer to our fundraising goal for Mr. Richard Nogueira in order to sponsor him in the upcoming 2017 IBJJF worlds competitions. Our efforts to get raise 1200 is about to be successful. We will get him back at Sampa BJJ and this time we are looking into hosting him for around 3 months.
As far as our events or activities are concerned, here are the Sampa Jiu Jitsu news:
Our week started with the boy scouts meeting and professor Renato got a chance to a make presentation about BJJ which is really a tricky task because BJJ is a ground fighting and people usually don’t want to wrestle on the hard floor because most of the times the hosts don’t have mats for the presentation. For Karate school, it is easier to make a presentation since there are no falls or grappling on the floor but mainly forms and standing striking.
In this presentation, professor Renato very beautifully explained the concept of BJJ, on how a littler and weaker individual can defend him against a bigger individual by utilizing appropriate strategy, leverage, even if the battle is taken to the ground.
Professor Renato again started his training with the stunt and actors group 87eleven- Action Design –mainly a gym, a stunt-choreography studio that had coordinated fight scenes in many movies.
8711 – They have been in the stunt industry for many years and using their diverse knowledge and skills to provide a comprehensive approach to action design. This is a great opportunity for professor Renato to learn a different approach for martial arts – the film choreography.
Professor Renato showed some simple fight sequences but the kids had a blast. The intention was to make a link in between the fun part of learning martial arts and actually learning the martial arts.
When performing a movie fight sequence, they are doing something that might not be real or useful in real life, but they are still practicing some of the techniques and exercises. It is disguise repetition and they all are having fun. Maybe one day they able to become a movie star or a stunt.
While prof. Renato was doing this presentation, we had our first hiking day designed for fitness program students.
They had to wake up early at 7:00 am in a Saturday morning. It was a very beautiful cloudy day. We went to Colby trail, a pretty easy trail to follow. It also, leads us to some absolutely astonishing views of Glendora and the San Gabriel Valley.
