Okay, guys Prof. Renato here from Sampa Jiu-Jitsu and once again I will be talking about many things that happen in a jiu-jitsu school. This time, we’re going to talk about what is the real competition for the jiu-jitsu schools and about abundance and seasonal sports and the culture that we have to build with the parents and this video is not only for school owners but also for parents to understand the problem about the seasonal sports. Many people think that the jiu-jitsu school and you have another jiu-jitsu school across the street is a competition. It might be a competition if you don’t go out to get your customers. So if you’re not doing exhibitions, you’re not going to grocery stores and parking lots talking and putting your flyers there and if you’re not moving and maybe the other guys are not moving neither and then you guys are doing a competition. If you’re just putting your ads and expect people to come then it will be a little hard. My second school is being like that. I have 300 students in one school and the other my school are just sitting there and waiting for people to come and they’re not going to come like that. We are not doing great right in there and we don’t have the time to focus and do the right thing. With that being said there will be no competition. We could have 3 or 10 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu schools in one city but what we need to do is making the people who don’t not even know what jiu-jitsu to come and try.
Now, when we have students stopping bjj for doing baseball and then they start for basketball, soccer and other seasonal sports then I think it’s a culture that we have to talk to the parents. You can tell them that jiu-jitsu can help them with balance, focus, coordination and everything so they don’t need to quit jiu-jitsu to do other sports. But the main thing and I see a lot of parents go for it then what’s next? Because it is an event behind it. I also see some parents do a little barbeque in there and get out together and then what’s next? They still go for soccer. So many times, parents only think about themselves just like the other parents and friends then what’s next? Just for the sake of the new trend? And they’re not thinking any more about their child. So this is a good talk that we should suppose to have with parents and explain more about jiu-jitsu and the benefits that jiu-jitsu can give to them. Because I truly believe that at the beginning of the early ages, we suppose to expose our children to a lot of different sports and from there we guide them which one they’re going towards mainly for Olympic results. But in a jiu-jitsu class for kids, if it’s properly done we have all the benefits that other sports provides. We have coordination drills, speed drills, strength drills and etc. so I think it’s a very good thing.
So again, our focus is to make the parents understand that they might not have jiu-jitsu but they have a big portion of what the kids need in their age and for their physical health, growth, and development. So if ever you talk to your parents like that, I think that your parents will think twice removing them from jiu-jitsu and putting them to a sport that might not help the kids. I say this because many of the kids came from this sports and parents says that their kids have been in the baseball fields and he’s not confident but now that he’s doing the jiu-jitsu they can see the change to their kids. And after that what the parents do is they remove their kids from jiu-jitsu which was the sport that they just said that fixed their children and put them back to baseball which was the sport that didn’t benefit them anything. We can’t compete if the parents are looking for having the kids a scholarship or having the kid being a professional. If that’s what the parents like then there’s nothing we can do about it. But if it’s not, jiu-jitsu can give them a better income when they grow because the kids when they get old they can be a coach, school owner, tournament organiser and it will give them infinite opportunities.
