Jiu Jitsu at the Christian Eckert Aikido Academy
5th Seminar by Sampa held at the acclaimed Christian EckertAikido Academy
Our 5th Seminar was at the Christian Eckert Aikido Academy. This institute is located in Hochheim. It is a small town nestled between Frankfurt and Mainz. With a population of just over 16,000, it’s a marvel that martial arts are thriving like none other in the city.
A little insight on the Christian Eckert Academy
The reason for people to be actively involved is the Christian EckertAikido Academy. Renowned for its martial art forms such as Aikido, Brazilian JiuJitsu and Swordplay, it welcomes students as young as 5 years are for their introductory courses of Aikido and Jiu Jitsu. The institute is famous for combining modern and historic forms of martial arts.
We were invited at the academy to deliver a seminar on the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The purpose of our visit was to impart our knowledge on the subject at the same time to develop a successful Jiu Jitsu program in the institute. We worked on a Based curriculum to be used for the next couple of months. Christian is starting a jiu jitsu program and a effective and sequencial curriculum is imperative.
The art of Brazilian JiuJitsu
Also known as BJJ, this martial arts form incepted in 1882, is an offspring of the art of Judo. Jiu Jitsu distinguished from its parent art by the fact that it also promotes the building of physical fitness and character amongst young people.
BJJ brings confidence among comparatively smaller and weaker people to tackle stronger opponents. It deals with the technique of grappling and ground fighting. With proper skills and leverage, we can ground our rival. Thereby, we defeat them by applying joint-locks and chokehold routines.
With such training, one can compensate for their physical strength. Famed among sport grappling tournaments and mixed martial arts, this type of martial arts is also used as the basic self-defence. Various international events are held across the globe to commemorate this historic art form.
What we tried to achieve at the academy
Over the years at Sampa, we accomplished all the techniques and carried out different improvisations on them. Through our seminar at Christian Eckert, we aimed at bringing these developments into effect. Our main focus was to foster a thriving Jiu Jitsu course in the academy.
We taught a basic curriculum to the students at Eckert. This included fundamental guard and mount positions which is the initial step in BJJ.
The other basics to start off with any Jiu Jitsu program consist of:
- An ability to relax while training
- Correctly gripping the opponent
- The Standing Guard Pass
- Escaping Side Mount
- Straight-Armlock from Guard
- The Scissor Sweep
- Bridging and Shrimping
The elementary lessons imparted to the pupils of Christian Eckert Aikido Academy will guide them in learning the nuances of Brazilian JiuJitsu. Following this practice regularly will help them polish their BJJ moves and attain perfection. They will continue working consistently on the basics until our ensuing visit where we will take up the next module of the BJJ curriculum. We eagerly look forward to our next trip to Christian Eckert Aikido Academy.
