A few months ago, we sponsored two brown belt Jiu-Jitsu athletes to come here to United States and compete in the world championship. Their names are Richar and Ricky. They are from Cicero Costa Jiu-Jitsu team and are great kids. They unfortunately did not have a great turn out at that tournament but they are staying at Sampa to train with all our of students. They take part in almost all of the training session and share their knowledge. They are great guys who take care of their partners and do a lot to teach each student.
Both of them also competed in the June Los Angeles Open- NABJJF and did very well, with each conquering 4 medals. In total, they got a total of 6 gold medals, one silver, and one bronze because at Open Weight, they decided to not compete against each other.
They also competed in the American Nationals in Las Vegas where Richar got 3rd place in the Gi competition and Ricky got 1st place in the Gi competition as well 3rd place in No-Gi competition.
These kids worked hard and we look forward to have them competing in BJJ Pro League, IBJJF, NABJJF and other tournaments around whenever they come back to United States.
As we all know Ricky went to teach and train in Texas a month after his arrival at Sampa BJJ, Richar stayed and had some more successes in other competitions like, North America Open from NABJJF and NAGA.
Richar competed a total of 12 jiu jitsu tournaments winning 9 first places, one third place and two competitions he did not place.
He left Sampa Jiu Jitsu very happy and grateful for what every student and coach have done to him and obviously for the fundraiser we did. Thank you Sampa BJJ student for helping someone that is not from your team but is a friend that shares the same love… Jiu Jitsu.
